Allen Gears and our customers are beginning to reap the benefits of an initiative that is sharpening our ability to deliver even the most complex and technically challenging projects right on time, reports Jason Watkiss, Technical Operations Director.
"Our reputation in the high-integrity gearbox sector is largely based on our engineering capabilities and the way we produce very technical, very reliable projects," he adds.
"Today's market is driving towards increasingly high levels of engineering capability and ever-tighter delivery timescales, so it's important we focus even more closely on our processes and on ways in which we can ensure on-time delivery, every time.
"A significant factor in this initiative is the system of gateway review points we build in to each project, from the early tendering stage, through Engineering, Procurement, Production and right up to final despatch. This helps us to assess and manage the inevitable risks in these demanding programmes more effectively, to understand when and where the key challenges are going to be and to anticipate and handle them as they occur."
Staff throughout the Allen Gears plant in Pershore now have clearer visibility of the precise progress of programmes, enabling everyone to contribute to refining and improving key processes.
"This initiative got underway early in 2007 and by the last quarter of this year the benefits are really starting to show," says Jason.
"In future our reputation will be based on both industry-leading engineering AND excellent delivery performance."
