Allen Gears has signed an agreement with Amarillo Gear, Texas, USA to be its authorised service provider for the UK installed base of Amarillo gears.

Amarillo Gear has approximately 250 installations throughout the UK. These are Primarily Fire Pump drive gearboxes for the offshore industry, and cooling-tower fan drives for power stations.

These units are in a bevel gear arrangement and operate at much lower speeds than Allen Gears’ original equipment products.

As the Amarillo authorised UK Service provider, Amarillo can ensure that they will get good Service coverage in the UK market, and it increases Allen Gears’ penetration into the industrial gearbox sector.

Allen Gears has already completed 6 x overhauls/repairs on Amarillo units. These were electric motor driven right angle fire pump installations situated Offshore North Sea:

• 3 from Shell Dunlin Platform
• 3 from Shell Brent platform.

They had suffered from sea water ingress, and therefore required a clean-up and overhaul.

We carried out a full overhaul including :- strip, inspect, crack detect
all tooth parts, replace all roller bearings, provide a full report with pictures and offer service recommendations for the future maintenance of the units.ss

This service is now offered to all end users with Amarillo units installed.
